This Bureau provides assistance in traffic related issues to the governing body, conduct investigations into serious motor vehicle collisions and assist the Engineering Department with the proper placement of signs and signals. The traffic bureau also assists citizens with traffic related complaints (speeding etc.) that occur within the township and assists residents with child car seat installations. Those with traffic related concerns are encouraged to contact the Police Department at the non-emergency number.


Montgomery Township Police Department Hosting Upcoming Child Passenger Safety Event

The Montgomery Township Police Department and the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety are hosting another child safety seat inspection event on the following date at the follow location:

Saturday August 7, 2010 from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm at the Station 45 Fire House on Griggstown Rd (CR 630) in Montgomery Township

No appointments are necessary and inspections are free of charge. The child safety seats will be inspected by certified child safety seat technicians. This event will be held rain or shine. Please call Officer Andrew Perry at (908) 533-9197 or Sgt. Robert Mitchell at (908) 533-9196 with any questions.   



New Jersey’s child passenger safety law requires:

• Children under 8 years of age who weigh less than 80 pounds to ride properly secured in a child safety seat or booster seat in the rear seat of the vehicle. If there is no rear seat, the child may sit in the front seat, but s/he must be secured by a child safety seat or booster seat.
Note: A rear-facing infant seat should never be placed in a front seat with a passenger-side airbag unless the vehicle is equipped with an air bag on/off switch. For more information about child safety seats and air bags consult Advisory on Airbags and Passenger Sensing Systems.)

• Children under 8 years of age who weigh more than 80 pounds to ride properly secured in a seat belt.

• Passengers 8 to 18 years of age (regardless of weight) ride properly secured in a seat belt.

The Montgomery Township Police Department is available to conduct child safety seat inspections, free of charge, at the Police Department. If you would like to have your child’s safety seat inspected you may call the Montgomery Police Department at 908-874-3333 (administrative line) and request to make an appointment or fill out the form below. Most inspections take approximately half an hour to complete.
